Arlu "JR" Persinger

Arlu Edgar Persinger, Jr. (“JR”), 78, of Summersville went home to be with the Lord on Monday, September 1, 2025.  Born June 24, 1947 at Crichton, Greenbrier County, WV, he was a son of the late Arlu and Pearl Minor Persinger.  He was also preceded in death by his sister, Betty Stephenson, infant sisters, Peggy Jean and Sue Ann Persinger.

     JR lived a life marked by faith, family, and laughter.  He was a devoted member of Ward Road Freewill Baptist Church at Nettie for more than 60 years, where he worshiped alongside his church family who he dearly loved.  He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, and most importantly spending time with family.  Known best for his quick wit and ability to always crack a joke, JR could bring a smile to anyone’s face.

        Those left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 59 years, Ruth Persinger; their daughters, Lou Ann (David) Hamrick and Lisa (Matthew) Peyatt; siblings, Bill Persinger, Curtis (Dot) Persinger, and Patsy (Mac) Wilson; four grandchildren, Mandy (Aaron) Evans, David (Stacey) Hamrick, Jr., Hunter (Kaylee) Peyatt, and Hailey Peyatt; five great grandchildren, Jason Evans, Brooklynn Evans, Liam Hamrick, Noah Hamrick, Hudson Peyatt, and one on the way, Ainsley Jane Hamrick.

     To know JR was to love him and he will be deeply missed not only by his family, but by his many friends and church family.

     It was his wish to be cremated.  Memorial services will be held at 12:00 (Noon) on Saturday, October 4, 2025 in the Ward Road Freewill Baptist Church at Canvas with Pastors Justin Phillips and Aaron Evans officiating.

     The family will receive friends at the church one-half hour prior to the services.
