Barbara Ann “Bobbie” Hughes Nowak, 87, of Summersville, WV passed away on Friday, October 21, 2022 in the WVU-Medicine Summersville Regional Medical Center. Born August 28, 1935 at Pool, WV, she was a daughter of the late Charles Austin and Alice Mae Greaser Hughes. She was also preceded in death by her husband, John Nowak; by a daughter, JoAnn Sizemore; and by her siblings, Judy Hughes, Nyle “Tiny” Hughes, Rush Hughes, Belle Stone, Sue Roncaglione, Donald Hughes, and Betty “Sissy” Applegate.
She was a member of the Saint John’s the Evangelist Catholic Church in Summersville, a retired magistrate court clerk for Nicholas County, a circuit clerk secretary, and was a former secretary for the law offices of Roy Clapperton and Carroll T. Lay as well as Dr. Groves.
Survivors include her son, Jay Nowak; daughter, Wanda “Puddie” Einstein; grandchildren, Peyton Nowak, Logan Key, Samantha Key, John Key; one great grandchild, Gabriel Chandler Key; special friend Sueky Bowlin, and a host of nieces, nephews, and family and friends.
She was a friend to many and rarely met a stranger. She was seen around the courthouse and streets of Summersville for decades with a contagious smile and hello. Her love for her community was evident in her passion for local politics where she was often seen energetically campaigning. Her political passions almost matched her love and enthusiasm for her family. Her children, grandchildren, great grandchild, nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews were her whole heart. Spoiling those she loved with time and affection brought her much joy.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, October 28, 2022 at the Saint John’s the Evangelist Catholic Church in Summersville with Father Renee Gerona officiating. Interment of the cremains will follow in the West Virginia Memorial Gardens at Calvin under the direction of the White Funeral Home at Summersville.
Friends may call at the funeral home at Summersville on Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. where a Rosary will be conducted at 7:45 p.m.
