Basil Darvin Cartwright

     Basil Darvin “Gomer” Cartwright, 79, of Summersville, WV passed away on Tuesday, March 28, 2023 in the Pine Lodge Nursing Home at Beckley.  Born July 5, 1943 at Canvas, he was a son of the late John Pershing and Clara Juanita Smith Cartwright. 

     He was a Christian, an Army veteran, a retired coal miner, and a member of the UMWA.

     Survivors include his wife, Mary Thompson Cartwright; five children, Bobby Joe (Jennifer) Cartwright of Ansted, Tommy Ray Cartwright, Timmy Lee Cartwright of Clay County, Basil Cartwright, Jr. of Summersville, and Tammy Wamsley of Summersville; one brother, Alvin Darrell Cartwright of Summersville; one sister, Phyllis Regina Hurt of Smyrna, TN; one grandchild, Angelia Boggess of Bradenton, FL; two great grandchildren, Alia Hardt and Ryan Foyle, both of FL.

     Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, April 2, 2023 in the White Funeral Home at Summersville with Pastor Arnold Nicholas officiating.  Interment will follow in the Groves Cemetery at Canvas.

     Friends may call at the funeral home on Sunday one-hour prior to the funeral services.
