Betty Jo Evans, 82, of Nettie, WV passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 17, 2023 in the Bower’s Hospice House at Beckley following a lengthy Alzheimer Dementia diagnosis. Born September 21, 1941 at Cabins, WV she was a daughter of the late Arthur James and Leona Florence Dolly Meadows. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Donald Ray Evans in 2021, by her brothers, Amos, Arthur Jr., Robert and George Meadows; brothers-in-law, Dale Evans and Eddie Evans.
She was a graduate of Richwood High School. Betty Jo began her career as a banker at Cherry River National Bank in Richwood and retired as an employee of Chrysler Credit in Charleston. She had a lifelong passion for religion and gospel music. She found much joy singing with the Springfork Singers who originated at the Springfork Baptist Church in Charleston. The group made several gospel albums over the years.
Survivors include two brothers, James (Marsha) Meadows and Don (Paulette) meadows; sisters-in-law, Ruth Meadows Bagyi, Sandra Meadows, Marsha Meadows, Nancy Meadows, Paulette Meadows, and Elma Evans; brother-in-law, James Evans; several nieces and nephews and a host of other family and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM on Thursday, December 21, 2023 at the Olive Branch Baptist Church in Nettie with Pastor Stuart Stover and Pastor Larry Gawthrop officiating. Interment will follow at the Fairview Cemetery under the direction of the White Funeral Home at Summersville.
Friends may call at the church 1 hour prior to the services at the church.
In lieu of flowers contributions in her memory may be made to Olive Branch Baptist Church Women’s Circle, or Hospice of Southern WV or to a music charity of your choice.
