Beulah Summers, 93, of Summersville, WV passed away at her home on Monday, September 9, 2024. Born July 10, 1931 at Boomer, she was a daughter of the late Joseph Clarence and Annie May Livesay Dorsey. She was also preceded in death by her husband of 69 years, Robert Homer Summers; sisters, Rose, Ruby, Junie, and Carol; and brother, Carl.
Beulah grew up in the WWII community of Boomer WV with a company assigned night guard and air raids. This was a loving community. She and her two best friends were so impressed by their teachers they made a pact to become teachers. They achieved their goal of becoming teachers and remained lifelong friends. These friends also wrote a book of collected writings and poems they each had written. Beulah attained a BA from WVIT and her Masters from UVA. She impacted many lives as a home economics teacher for the majority of her career. She taught thousands of girls how to cook, but her family was not impressed with her cooking. She eventually retired as a guidance counselor in Fairfax County VA. After retirement and building a home on family property in Nicholas County WV, she spent her time as an avid volunteer. She was active in the book club, President of The Nicholas County Genealogical and Historical Society, instrumental in starting Old Main Foundation, member of the Honorary Teacher Society and numerous others. Beulah read her Bible daily. She was a member of the Fairview Baptist Church at Lockwood. Her favorite song was Beulah Land, especially when sung by relative Squire Parsons. She recently said she saw heaven’s gate so there’s no doubt she is finally enjoying Beulah Land, from her favorite song.
Survivors include her son Kenneth Summers; Granddaughter Krista Summers Campbell (spouse Eric); Great Granddaughter Brooke Haile (spouse Billy); Great Grandson Austin Warren (spouse Mindy); 3 Great Great Grandchildren Derek Banks-Haile, Allessia Haile and Rory Haile and a host of other family and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, September 13, 2024 in the White-Anderson Funeral Home and Cremation Center at Summersville with Pastor Warren Eades officiating. Interment will follow in the Miller Cemetery on the Gad Road at Kesslers Cross Lanes.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Betsy and Amanda for their assistance.
