Charles Hinkle Obituary

Charles “Charley” Houston Hinkle passed away peacefully at the age of 84 on Thursday, March 16, 2023, at the Stonerise Nursing home in Summersville, Nicholas County, West Virginia after an extended illness. 

He was born on August 17, 1938, in Otsego, Wyoming County, West Virginia to Huston and Gracie. He married the love of his life, Phyllis Bryant Hinkle, on August 15, 1961, followed by raising two sons, Larry White and Timmy Hinkle.

He was a well known and loved man in the community. He loved to hunt, fish and be with his family. He was a man of faith and a longtime member of the Jordan Chapel Church.  In 1956, he graduated from Nicholas County High School. He was a proud citizen who contributed to the community. He served on many Community and Business Boards: Volunteer Firefighter for the Summersville Fire Department, Nicholas County Board of Education, WV Motor Truck Association, One Valley Bank, Jordan Chapel Church, Summersville Little League, and donator of labor and equipment for the construction of the NCHS Football Stadium.

Charley was a proud businessman. After working on the construction of the Summersville Dam, he owned and operated Naomi Trucking for 36 years and achieved many safety and performance awards. He was a strong advocate for the coal industry and well respected by his peers and colleagues.

He is survived by his wife, Phyllis Bryant Hinkle, son Larry White, grandson TC Hinkle (Stephanie), granddaughter Farrah Hinkle, Great Grandchildren Charlize Hinkle, Hendrix Hinkle, Brothers Mike Hinkle (Nancy), Jack Hinkle (Dottie) and Sisters Mary Comer and Brenda Morris (Shirley) and many in laws, nieces and nephews. He was proceeded in death by his parents Huston Hinkle, Gracie Mae Jarrett, son Timothy Hinkle and grandson Corey White.

Visitation will be Friday, March 24, 2023, from 6-8 pm at White Funeral Home in Summersville, West Virginia. A private graveside service with Chad White officiating will be held at the Bryant Cemetery in Canvas, West Virginia.
