Darla Dooley Rader, 85, of Summersville died peacefully at home on Saturday, December 7th, 2024 surrounded by family after a recent diagnosis of liver cancer. She was born at home in 1939 in Mt. Nebo to Hubert and Rhoda (Thomas) Dooley. Darla was a 1957 graduate of Nicholas County High School.
Darla worked for the family business, Rader Aviation, for many years until her retirement in 2007. She spent countless hours in her yard and flower gardens. She also enjoyed feeding and watching her birds. Her love language was cooking and baking for her family and loved ones.
Darla was preceded in death by her beloved husband Gerald, her grandson Aaron Rader, her parents and 8 of her 10 siblings.
Left to cherish her memory are her son, Gerald “Jerry” Rader II, of Canvas, and daughters Diane Rader Frost (Bill) of Grand Junction, CO and Renee Rader of Summersville.
Six grandchildren: Jerra Rader Shuff, Gerald “JR” Rader III, Travis Ferrell, Dawson Blankenship, Nicholas “Nick” Rader and Gavin Blankenship.
Five great-grandchildren: Jamison and Jakob Shuff as well as Nora, Asher and Ezekiel Rader. One sister, Ruth Gwinn and one brother, David Dooley.
A funeral service to honor Darla’s life will be held at Anderson-White Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Summersville on Wednesday, December 11, 2024 with Pastor Phil Wilson officiating. Interment will follow in the Walker Memorial Park at Summersville.
Friends and family may call from 12 to 2 pm at the funeral home and the funeral services will begin at 2.
