Donald Wayne Blake, 87, passed away on October 21, 2025 at Genesis Health Center after a short illness.
He was born September 3, 1938 in Oak Hill, West Virginia. He was the son of the late Rufus V. Blake and Pauline L. Blake (Price). He was the grandson of Bruce E. Blake and Martha Ellen Blake, also of Oak Hill, who helped to raise him.
Don retired from the Kroger Company, where he had worked from the age of 16, other than four years serving in the Air Force. He worked at stores in Oak Hill, Gauley Bridge and Summersville during his time with Kroger, where he finished his career as Head Grocer Clerk. He served in the United States Air Force helping to train pilots on flight simulators during the Vietnam War. He also earned an Associates Degree from Beckley College.
Don lived the last 45 years of his life in Summersville, West Virginia. He loved to bowl, bowling in leagues in Oak Hill and in Beckley. He also loved to golf, and was a member at the Nicholas Memorial Golf Course where he golfed extensively, especially after retirement. He loved to watch and cheer on the Mountaineers in all sports, especially football and basketball. He was a great dad and will be sorely missed.
Don was preceded in death by his grandparents, Bruce Blake and Martha Blake. He was also preceded in death by: his parents, Pauline Blake and Rufus Blake; step-brother Donovan Giles, and a brother, Ralph Blake. He is survived by his sister, Betty Johnson and his son, Mike Blake.
According to his wishes, Don was cremated at White-Anderson Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Summersville, West Virginia.
