Donna Jean Adkins

     Donna Jean Adkins, 94, of Mt. Nebo, WV passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 25, 2022 at Hidden Valley Nursing Home in Oak Hill.

     Donna Jean was born August 3, 1928 to Charles and Emma (Dunford) Foster in the former coal mining town of Wyndal, Fayette County, across the Gauley River from Belva.  The family later moved to the Dixie area where Donna spent her youth and graduated from Gauley Bridge High School in 1947.

     In the late 1940’s, Donna Jean met and married the love of her life, Wilbert (Wib) Adkins.  The early 1960’s found them in the Belle  area where they raised their four sons before moving to the Summersville area in the 1970’s.

     In addition to her parents, Donna Jean was preceded in death by her husband, Wib Adkins and sons, Jeffrey Allen Adkins and Randall Joe Adkins.

     Remaining to cherish her memory are sons, Wilbert (Tony) Adkins and wife, Karlen, David Lee Adkins and wife Becky, all of Mt. Nebo; granddaughters, Leslie Adkins of Beckley, Whitnee Adkins Davis (Jimmy) of Mt. Lookout, Jessica Adkins Acosta (Jose’) of Chicago, IL; grandson, Jarrett Adkins of Summersville; great granddaughter, Harper Adkins, sister, Mary Taylor (Tim); many nieces, nephews and extended family members.

     Donna Jean was a Christian, had a very sweet and quiet demeanor and was loved by all.  During her early years, she was a member of the old Bell Creek Baptist church.  She later attended Witcher Creek Baptist and Summersville Baptist Church.  In her later years, she was a faithful member of Gilgal United Methodist Church.

     Donna Jean was a loving and caring wife, mother, sister, and daughter.  She was a wonderful cook and homemaker and had a great love of music.  Until her passing, she was the oldest living descendant of the Van Buren and Bessie Foster family of Belva.

     Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, August 29, 2022 in the White Funeral Home at Summersville with Pastor Doug Beam officiating.  Interment will follow in the Walker Memorial Park at Summersville. 

     Friends may call at the funeral home on Monday one-hour prior to the funeral services.
