Elsie A. Stanley

Elsie A. Stanley, 92, of Richwood, WV passed away Monday, March 2, 2020 at WVU- Medicine Summersville Regional Medical Center. Born June 15, 1927 in Richwood, WV, she was the daughter of the late Louis and Mary Cagale Prelaz. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert E. Stanley and two brothers, Louis and Edward Prelaz. Elsie was co-owner of Prelaz Restaurant in Richwood for 40 years along with her mother, Mary and her sister, Rosie Spencer Mondreas. Prelaz Restaurant was wide-known around the state for it's made from scratch home cooking, excellent pies and homemade rolls. Prelaz Restaurant closed its doors in 1980. After the restaurant closed, Elsie and her late husband, Bob, decided to take on the management of Cherry Hill Country Club in Richwood which they did for another 20 years. She was an excellent cook and avid golfer. "In the day", she enjoyed playing golf with her lady friends and she especially loved playing in tournaments. She was passionate about Cherry Hill Country Club and it's members. She lived in Richwood her entire life and she was the best Mom and Granny anyone could ask for. She will be sorely missed by her family. Elsie is survived by two children, Dr. Robert C. Stanley (Judy), Roberta "Bertie" Wall (Andy) both of Summersville, WV.; four grandchildren, Jeremy Stanley (Lee Ellen) of Charleston, WV, Dr. Jonathan Stanley (Carrie) of Morgantown, WV, Piper Simmons (Shawn) of Dacula, GA, Josh Wall (Ashleigh) of Charleston, WV; two sisters, Mary Prelaz in Fayetteville Nursing Home, Rosie Mondreas (Chris) of Richwood, WV; five great grandchildren and one great great grandchild. She was cremated and had requested no public service be held. A private family memorial will be held in her honor. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Richwood Volunteer Fire Department, Richwood, WV. White Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
