Ernest Milton Wygal, Sr.

Ernest Milton Wygal, Sr. 97 of Canvas, WV passed away on Tuesday, June 14, 2022 in the Webster Nursing and Rehabilitation Center at Cowen.  Born June 29, 1924 at Mt. Hope, WV, he was a son of the late Amos and Mamie Wygal.  He was from a large family of 3 brothers and four sisters.

      In 1943 Ernest enlisted in the US Navy and served in the Pacific.  He returned in 1947 to marry Junia Sherwood.  The two were each other’s lifelong companions and friends.  They were blessed with three children.  Ernest lost Junia in November of 2012.

      Ernest worked as a coal miner for 43 years.  He was a member of the Jordan Chapel United Methodist Church in Canvas.  He also was a charter member of the Canvas Ruritan Club.  Ernest loved gardening and watching old westerns on TV.  You could usually find him munching on a Mr. Good candy bar.

     Those left to cherish his memory are his sister, Kathryn Burns of Woodbridge, VA; children, Sandra and Russell Taylor of Murrells Inlet, SC, Ernest Milton and Bobbie Wygal of Surfside, SC, and Carol and Kevin Wine of Exchange; grandchildren, Betsy (Craig) Krieger, Stephen (Michele) Taylor, John (Dusty) Taylor, Caleb (Tasha) Wygal, and Noah Wygal; great grandchildren, Benjamin, Matthew, Saige, Bella and Collin, numerous nieces and nephews.

      Graveside services will be held at 11 AM on Saturday, June 18, 2022 at the Walker Memorial Park in Summersville with Pastor David Lancaster officiating.  Interment will follow under the direction of the White Funeral Home at Summersville.  There will be no visitation.

      The family would like to thank the Webster Nursing Home for their wonderful care and compassion.

      In lieu of flowers the family would like donations in his memory made to the Alzheimer’s Association.
