Evelyn Novine Bleigh O’Dell, 87, peacefully passed away December 6th 2021 at Charlotte Hall Veterans Home in Maryland with family at her bedside. Born December 17, 1933 in Richwood WV, Novine (as she was known to many) was preceded in death by her beloved husband Ralph O’Dell, parents Jacob Cleveland and Nannie Lorraine Moran Bleigh, her ten siblings Madge Bleigh, Deloris Bleigh, Lavear (Peg) Bleigh, Dorene Flanagan, Kathleen Wohn, Helen Rodebaugh, Hilbert (Bill) Bleigh, Wanda Eakle, Shelba Jones, and Doran Bleigh, and her son, Michael O’Dell.
Novine leaves behind daughters Pamela Bunn (John) of Burtonsville MD, Teresa Giddings (Charles (Deceased)) of Laurel, MD; Cheryl Hahn (Thomas) of Augusta, WV; Patrick O’Dell (Tiffany) of Romney WV; and Meritza Miles (Daniel) of Mifflinburg, PA. In addition she also leaves behind sisters-in-law Maxine Bleigh, Pearl Osborne, Shirley Mollohan (Wayne), brothers-in-law Darrell O’Dell and Buster Young, as well as many beloved nieces and nephews and an ever growing legacy of 20 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren.
Novine graduated from Richwood HS in 1953 and attended Glenville State College before traveling the world as a Navy Wife (m. June 13th 1951 in Sam Black Church WV) and raising a family with the love of her life, Ralph W. O’Dell, originally of Mt. Nebo, WV. Following Ralph’s first tour of duty in Japan, Novine and Ralph spent the next 32 years raising six children and fondly called South Carolina, Panama, Canada, Portugal, and Maryland home before retiring in Beavertown, PA in 1986.
Novine loved traveling with Ralph, gardening, and cooking. Her meals and nightly desserts were legendary and deserve publication. More than anything else, Mom simply loved spending time with her darling, her kids, and precious grandbabies.
The family will receive friends on 22 April at White Funeral Home, Summersville WV between 5 – 7pm. A Memorial Celebration of Life will be held at the Hickory Grove United Methodist Church in Mt. Nebo, WV 23 April 1pm.
