Gail Mozelle Shelton Ray went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, July 20, 2024. She was born in Montgomery, WV, on January 29, 1939, to the late Hugh and Elizabeth Neil Shelton. She was a 1956 graduate of Nicholas County High School and resided in Nicholas County for much of her life with Craigsville being her home for the last 54 years.
Gail is probably most known by the deep love she had for her family, and friends who were like family, and always found ways to serve them. She was also described by many as a faithful servant of the Lord. She attended Cottle Church of God where she served in various positions over the years such as on the Board of Trustees and the Church Council. She started an exercise class at the church and was very involved the lady’s ministry. She organized quarterly birthday celebrations in addition to making sure everyone got a birthday or anniversary card on their special day. Also, she facilitated programs that helped missionaries like the Christ Birthday Offering and so many other ways she was always willing to serve.
Surviving to cherish her memory is her husband of 66 years, William A. “Bill” Ray; sons, Timothy (Cindy) Ray, David (Diana) Ray, and Kenneth (Teresa) Ray; daughter, Elizabeth (David) Hellmig: grandsons, William “Billy” (Lindsey) Ray, III, Timmy Ray, Tyler (Anna) Ray, Benjamin Ray, Michael Ray, Daniel Ray, Jonathan (Madison) Ray, Andrew Ray, David Hellmig, II, Kenneth Hellmig, Stephen Hellmig, and Eli Hellmig; granddaughters, Samantha Ray, Ashley Ray, Jessica (Joey) Spadafore, Courtney (Cody) Pifer, Sarah (Aaron) Amos, and Angela Hellmig; 13 great grandchildren; sister, Shirley Scholl; many nephews and nieces.
In addition to her parents, Gail is preceded in death by her son, William A. “Bill” (Linda) Ray, II; granddaughter, Carolina Michelle Ray; brothers, John Shelton, Harold Shelton, and Lawrence Shelton; sisters, Louella Shelton, Madge Murphy, Mary Ann Burdette, and Bonnie Emery.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Cottle Church of God, 19623 Webster Road, Craigsville, WV, on Saturday, July 27, 2024, at 12:00 noon with Pastor Virginia Russ officiating. Family will gather at 10:00am and will receive friends beginning at 11:00am. Burial will follow at Rich Creek Cemetery in Jodie, WV under the direction of the White-Anderson Funeral Home and Cremation Center.
