Helen M. Sigman Cottrell, 85, of Summersville, WV, passed away the evening of February 3, 2025. Helen was raised in Widen, WV. She moved to Arlington, VA in 1963, where she worked at several different jobs. Her last job was with National Orthopedic & Rehabilitation Hospital. She returned to West Virginia in 1996.
Helen was the daughter of the late Oral and Ella Houghton Sigman. Helen married her husband Ronald in 1964. They had known each other for many years. They attended Widen High School. Helen graduated in 1957 and Ronald graduated in 1958.
Besides her husband of 60 sixty years, she leaves one son, Greg, and his life partner, Michele Schoeppe, of Virginia. She also is survived by her sister Sarah Sigman Cottrell and Sarah’s husband Richard of Virginia, special niece Susan Phipps and husband Chris of Virginia, special nephew Tim Cottrell and wife Sharon of Virginia, special great nephew Timmy Cottrell of Virgina, and two step-nephews, Ben and Jake Sponseller, of Viginia, and many cousins she loved dearly.
Helen was a longtime member of the Reynolds Street Free Will Baptist Church. Her favorite hobby was photography.
Visitation and funeral services will be held at White-Anderson Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Summersville, WV on Saturday, February 8th. Visitation will begin at 11:00 am and the funeral will be at 1:00 pm. Burial will take place at Walnut Grove Church Cemetery on Wilson Ridge in Strange Creek, WV at a later date. Pastor Arnold Nicholas will preside.
