Helen White Obituary

Helen Arbutus (Wilson) White, 90, of Summersville, West Virginia passed  away peacefully  May 29th  at Bowers Hospice House in Beckley, West Virginia.

Born August 19, 1934 in Clendenin, W.V., the daughter of Ober and Mae (Jamison) Wilson, the younger sister of Paul Wilson and Ann (Wilson) Daniels. Helen enjoyed her childhood in Clendenin and loved to share stories of her upbringing with her own children. Her father passed away when she was three years old and Mae raised her three young children by herself.  Helen held her mother in high regard for the hard work and sacrifices she made to take care of her children.

From Clendenin Helen's life journey took her to South Charleston where she went to High School, Huntington where she earned an Associates Degree from Marshall College (Marshall University now), Onancock, Va,. Summersville, WV, where her husband Reverend Walter White was then the minister of the First Presbyterian Church in Summersville, Cross Lanes, WV, Plymouth, Michigan and in 1985 a return to Summersville when Walter retired.

Along her journey Walter and Helen began their family with the births of; Kimberly, Walter, Susan, Thomas, William and Amy.

Remembering the lessons she learned from her own mother,  Helen embraced motherhood and her children( and later grandchildren and great grandchildren), all of whom became the focus of her life; Family, Faith and Friends.

Last August a celebration of life was held to honor Helen for her  90th birthday and she was able to meet and see many friends and family members.

Helen was a longtime employee of the Summersville Public Library and previously worked in the library at an elementary school in Michigan. She enjoyed Story Time at the library and church and reading to the young children.

Helen loved crossword puzzles and playing Scrabble but will be most remembered for her kindness to others and love she had for all.

A celebration of Helen (Wilson) White's life will be held in July 2025 at the Summersville First Presbyterian Church.
