James Leonard “Jamie” Cook, 50, of Sophia, WV passed away on Saturday, April 25, 2026 in the WVU-Medicine Ruby Memorial Hospital at Morgantown after a five year long courageous battle with cancer. Born November 9, 1975 at Charleston, he was a son of the late Leonard Earl and Margaret Ann Shaffer Cook. He was also preceded in death by his father and mother-in-law, Ronald and Sharon Howerton.
He attended Fairdale Baptist Church at Fairdale, he was an avid sports fan, and a lifelong fan of the Navy Midshipman and the Pittsburgh Pirates.
Survivors include his wife of 21 years, Heather Faye Howerton Cook; two sisters, Alice Harris and Teresa (Steve) Smith; and a host of other family and friends.
It was his wish to be cremated and no services will be held at this time.
His motto was: The best view comes after the hardest climb.
