James Ward Obituary

James K. Ward, 89, of Summersville, WV was welcomed into heaven on Good Friday, April 15, 2022, after a short illness.

"Jim" entered heaven as he lived; quiet and peacefully, surrounded by family and friends.  Jim worked hard to provide for his family and was an electrician at Peerless Eagle Coal Company for over 30 years. Bored in retirement he went to work in the Sporting Goods Department at Walmart where he spent 27 years serving his community and sharing his knowledge of the outdoors - especially fishing.

Jim was a lifelong Christian and was well respected as a Bible Study Leader and Sunday School Teacher at Jordan Chapel UMC and in recent years he was a member of Mountain View Church in Canvas, WV.

He was greeted in  his next adventure by those who preceded him in death including:  Parents, Willis and Nina Ward of Canvas, Brother, Harold Ward and his wife, Barbara of Summersville, Sister, Joyce Baldwin and her husband, Charlie of Cartersville, VA and his Son-in-law, Victor Umbliya of Summersville.

Jim is survived by his wife of 64 years, Virginia "Jean" (Tolliver) Ward, his daughter Donna Ward, son and daughter-in-law, Kevin and Kelly Ward, grandson, Drew Ward, and granddaughter, Macy Ward, all of Summersville.          He will forever be remembered as a kind and caring man who honored God, loved his wife, was a great example for his children, was proud of his grandchildren's accomplishments, kept an immaculate lawn, and had a great fondness for jellybeans.      Graveside services will be held at 10:00 a.m. at WV Memorial Gardens at Calvin on Wednesday, April 20th, led by Pastor Charles Miller of Mountain View Church. Interment will follow under the direction of the White Funeral Home at Summersville.

In memory of Jim please consider donating to Bower’s Hospice House in Beckley, WV where he received gentle care and respect during his final days 454 Cranberry Drive Beckley, WV  25801.
