James Darrell Johnson, 88, of Craigsville, WV passed away on Monday, July 14, 2025 at his daughter’s home in Craigsville. Born July 17, 1936 at Summersville, he was a son of the late Arley Mack and Mabel Irene Butler Johnson. He was also preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Virginia Madalene Foster Johnson; brothers, Arley Junior Johnson, Clarence (Doris) Johnson, and Darris (Betty Sue) (Gerri) Johnson; sisters, Lillian (Tom) Bailes, Ruth Forren, and Phyllis (James) Copenhaver; foster-in-law siblings, Mary Williams (Wilber) (Art), Gertrude Legg (Herold), Denny Foster, Dale Ramsey, Fred Foster, and June Gower.
He was a member of the Saint Luke’s United Methodist Church at Craigsville, was a proud Marine, and he loved being a Papaw.
Survivors include his children, Larry (Carol), Gary (Kim) Dianna, and Arley; thirteen grandchildren and eighteen great grandchildren; sister-in-law, Janet; foster-in-law siblings, Jean Foster, Chuck (Gloria Foster), Nora Ramsey, Patsy Foster, Trish (Allen) Donaldson, Rocky (Elaine Foster), and Bruce Gower.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, August 1, 2025 in the Saint Luke’s United Methodist Church Activity Building at Craigsville with Rev. Dr. Ken Ramsey and Rev. Dr. Chuck Pullins officiating. Interment will follow in the Walker Memorial Park at Summersville under the direction of the White-Anderson Funeral Home and Cremation Center at Summersville.
Friends may call at the Saint Luke’s Church Activity Building on Thursday, July 31, 2025 from 6 to 8 p.m.
