Joel Melvin Hypes

Joel Melvin Hypes went home to be with his Lord and Savior on February 12, 2025 at his home in Kesslers Cross Lanes.

      Joel was known for his kind heart and unique sense of humor.  His laugh was one of his best and most recognizable features and could often be heard after telling a silly Dad joke.  He was an avid outdoorsman and Mountaineer fan.  In his younger days he could be found in the woods hunting, searching for ginseng and mushrooms and trapping animals.  He spent many years working at Anglers Roost both as a clerk and as a manager. 

      He married the love of his life, Kim and together they had three beautiful children, Paul, Sarah, Rachel.  Joel enjoyed Sunday drives and sitting by a river with a line in the water.  He enjoyed searching for antiques, particularly crocs and old farm equipment.  Later in life he enjoyed sitting on his porch swing, attending his grandchildren’s sporting events and selling things at the local flea market.  He was a member of Zoar Baptist Church where he taught Sunday School.

      He was preceded in death by his mother and father, Doc and Mildred Hypes, brother, Danny Hypes and best buddy Dale Neil.

      Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife of 34 years, Kim Hypes, his pride and joy his children, Paul (Lori) McCoy, Sarah (John) Cody, Rachel (Jared) Mitchem; grandchildren, Taylor and Jacob McCoy, Mason and Owen Cody, Vada Mitchem; sisters, Janet (Mike) Shawver and Becky (Bill) Kuhn, as well as many other loved family members and friends.

      Joel was always up for a drive through the scenic route and peanut butter and jelly sandwich.

      A celebration of life will be held on Monday, February 17, 2025 at 3:00 PM at Restoration Fellowship Church in Mt. Nebo.  Arrangements were made by the White-Anderson Funeral Home and Cremation Center in Summersville.
