Karen McClure Obituary

Karen Scott McClure passed away on May 23, 2020 due to complications from Alzheimer’s disease. She was surrounded by the love and support of several family members who were able to be by her side in the last hours. She was 75. Karen loved to travel and visited 49 of the 50 states. She made several cross-country trips, including an excursion through Canada to Alaska. Her lifelong ambition was to be a nurse. She attended C&O Nurses’ Training School in Clifton Forge, VA, obtaining her Registered Nursing license in 1966. She touched many lives throughout her nursing career and was considered a treasured mentor by many. Known as “Granny”, she loved her weekend night crew. She retired from Summersville Regional Medical Center in 2013, after 28 years. Karen was preceded in death by her husband and #1 travel buddy of 42 years, Henry C. McClure; son, Scott H. McClure; parents, Lanty and Bea Scott; sister, Sherrell Scott Walker; son-in-law, Mark Hackworth. She is survived by her children, Elizabeth McClure, Samuel (Holly) McClure, and Sharon Hackworth; brother, Homer (Donna) Scott; 10 grandchildren: Eric, Will, Boyce, Teresa, Erin, Peyton, Austin, Sarah, Nicholas, and Olivia; one great grandchild, Alyson; a number of nieces and nephews and extended family members. The family wishes to thank the team at Summersville Reginal Medical Center, Extended Care Facility for the excellent care afforded our Mom/Mamaw/Great-Ma during her short stay. Graveside funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, May 27, 2020 in the East Lawn Cemetery at Canvas. Interment will follow under the direction of the White Funeral Home at Summersville. Friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. where COVID 19 restrictions will be followed.
