Madaline Pearl (Cutlip) Wagner

Madaline Pearl Wagner, 101, of Summersville passed away on Thursday, August 12, 2021 at home.  She was the daughter of the late Arnon L. and Maynie P. Neil Cutlip.  She was born at Summersville May 9, 1920.  Madaline graduated from Nicholas County High School in 1938.  Madaline was an operator with the C and P Telephone Company in Silver Springs, Maryland and moved back to Summersville to care for her ailing father and sister, Retha.  She was a member of the Summersville Baptist Church.  She was also preceded in death by her only daughter, Shirley Anne Wagner Astle.  Surviving is one sister, Mary Martin of Rising Sun, Maryland; a sister-in-law, Florence Cutlip of Martinsburg, WV; three grandchildren, Cindy (Sean) Lyle of Billings Montana, Angie (Mark) Kison of Auburn, Washington, and Tim (Angie) Astle of Anchorage, Alaska; seven great grandchildren, Tim and Maggie Lyle, Ben and Lillian Kison and Cheyanne, Dakota and Marshall Astle.  She was also survived by several nieces and nephews.  Madaline loved her family and family gatherings!  She celebrated her 101st Birthday this past year and loved wearing T-shirts that depicted her age.  She was an avid sports fan all her life and she especially liked to watch the Washington Red Skins, Wet Virginia University, and Marshall University, (both football and basketball).  She brought much joy to all who knew her and will be sorely missed.  We would like to thank Hospice who were so helpful with her care during her illness and Frankie Kincaid who assisted with her caregiving.  Interment was at Walker Memorial Park on Saturday, August 14, 2021 with Rev. Delbert Walker officiating.  White Funeral Home at Summersville was in charge of the arrangements.
