Melvin Cottrill aged 87 sadly passed away on December 16th in upstate New York. Born October 20th 1938, he was a son of the late Benny and Gertrude Barnett Cottrill. He grew up in West Virginia and eventually relocated to Mottville in upstate New York where he worked at Martisco Paper Mill before retiring and returning to Glenville, West Virginia. He was a very outdoors orientated person who fished and hunted his whole life and traveled across the country with his brother Jerry Cottrill on many occasions.
He also served with the army during Vietnam. He was married to Freda Cottrill on January 29th 1965 and is survived by sons Lee and Adam Cottrill as well as 5 grandchildren Chelsea, Jason, Kyra, Lexie and Taylor and 2 great grandchildren Adrianna and Ava. He is also survived by a brother, Franklin and by two sisters, Carolyn and Jeanette. He will be missed and remembered by his entire family.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, December 22, 2025 in the White-Anderson Funeral Home and Cremation Center at Summersville with Pastor Arnold Nicholas officiating. Interment will follow in the Cox Cemetery on Polemic Run Road at Birch River.
Friends may call at the funeral home on Monday one-hour prior to the funeral services.
