Nancy Ann Huffman Bryant, 82, of Mt. Nebo, West Virginia, passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 30, 2025, surrounded by her loving family.
Born on March 11, 1943, in Charleston, WV, Nancy was the daughter of the late Henry Alderson Huffman and Carre Jo Champe. She was also preceded in death by her infant sister, Betsy Lee Huffman.
Nancy married the love of her life, Steven Gary Bryant, on June 12, 1965. Together, they recently celebrated 60 beautiful years of marriage, a testament to their enduring love and devotion.
She is survived by their beloved daughter, Suzanne Bryant Brown; son-in-law, James Allen Brown; and two cherished grandchildren, Anna Beth Brown and Austin James Brown—all of Mt. Nebo, WV.
Nancy also leaves behind her dear sisters-in-law Faye Lorraine “Simmie” O’Reilly (Tom), Rosalea Bryant, and Phyllis Hinkle, as well as her brother-in-law Danny Bryant (Judy). She deeply treasured her lifelong friendships with her in-laws, nieces, nephews and cousins, who brought joy and warmth to her life.
Nancy graduated from Nicholas County High School in 1960 and pursued higher education at the West Virginia Institute of Technology, earning a Bachelor of Arts degree. She later received her Graduate Degree in Secondary Education from West Virginia University. She was a proud member of the Nu Chapter of Delta Kappa Gamma, an organization for women educators.
Her teaching career began in 1965 and spanned 35 years in Nicholas County Schools. She taught at Canvas Grade School (1966–1976), Nicholas County High School (1976–1978 and 1989–2000), and Summersville Junior High School (1978–1989). She retired in 2000, leaving behind a legacy of dedication, compassion, and inspiration for generations of students.
A lifelong member of Gilgal United Methodist Church, Nancy’s faith was the cornerstone of her life. Her devotion to God and her church community shone through in her kindness, generosity, and unwavering spirit.
Nancy found joy in the simple pleasures of life—spending time with her family, friends and her two furry cats, sharing stories, and nurturing those around her with love and wisdom. Her warmth, grace, and strength will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
Services will be held at 1:00 PM on Thursday, September 4, 2025 at the Gilgal United Methodist Church, Mt. Nebo, WV. Visitation will be on the day of the service from Noon to service time. Interment will follow at the Gilgal United Methodist Church Cemetery under the direction of the White-Anderson Funeral Home and Cremation Center.
