Ray Sparks, 85, of Mt. Nebo, WV passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 19, 2025. Born December 27, 1939, he was the son of the late Bernard and Dainty Sparks.
Ray lived a life defined by hard work, devotion to family, and a love for farming. For 31 years he faithfully served the Nicholas County Board of Education as a bus operator. Alongside his career, he was a proud entrepreneur owning and operating Judy Ann Trucking and Paving for 20 years, Fairview Pennzoil Service Station, and Nicholas County Tractor.
Although his work accomplishments were many, Ray’s greatest joy came from farming. For over 62 years, he lovingly worked the farm he cleared himself, farming Angus cattle and cultivating the land. He had a special pride for tractors and took immense pride in every acre of the farm he called home.
Ray is survived by his loving wife of over 56 years, Judy Sparks. Together they built a life grounded in love and family. He is also survived by his children; Karen Ann Bostic and her husband, Michael with their sons, William Bostic 33, and Christian Bostic, 29; and their son, Brian Sparks and his wife, Lynne, with their daughter, Emma, 12
In addition, Ray is survived by his sister, Phyllis McClung of Ravenswood and his brother, Randall Sparks of Summersville. Also in addition to his parents, Ray was preceded in death by his sister, Delores McCutcheon and his brother, Roger Sparks.
Ray will be remembered for his strength, perseverance, and the legacy of hard work and devotion he leaves behind. His presence will be deeply missed, but his values and love will continue to live on through his family and the land he so deeply cherished.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 25, 2025 in the White-Anderson Funeral Home and Cremation Center at Summersville with Pastor Tim Painter officiating. Interment will follow in the Walker Memorial Park at Summersville.
Friends and family are invited to gather in remembrance of a man whose life touched many.
