Thomas “Tommy” Maxwell Bailes, Jr., 65, of Summersville, WV went to be with our Lord July 21, 2021. Born April 25, 1956, in Richwood, WV at Sacred Heart Hospital, he was the son of Thomas Maxwell Sr. and the late Lillian (Johnson) Bailes. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Amber Lee, father-in-law Sidney Valentine, Sr. and nephew Phillip Joseph Meadows, and several aunts and uncles. A member of the 1974 class of Nicholas County High School, he graduated from Nashville Auto Diesel College in 1977. He was a retired Diesel Master Mechanic by trade. He worked at Alex Energy, Arch Coal, Alpha Coal, Massey Coal, Winjean Trucking and Thomas Bailes Construction. In his free time he enjoyed hunting, fishing, riding ATVs, and giving tractor rides to his grandkids. He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Mildred Valentine Bailes; their daughters Amanda (Zachary) Gooch of Summersville, WV, Andrea (Dana) Moses of Nitro, WV, and Tammi Jo (Robbie) Kimlin of Summersville, WV.; grandchildren Benjamin, Laken and Allison Gooch, Jackson and Jameson Moses, and Kilie and Walker Kimlin; father Thomas Bailes, Sr. of Summersville, WV and mother-in-Law Ruth Valentine of Sebring, FL.; siblings Mary Lou (Ralph) Meadows of Canvas, WV, Michael Bailes of Daytona, FL, Joyce Lee (Bill) Hoover of Summersville,WV and Walter (Missy) Bailes of Summersville, WV; in-laws Annie (Joe) Groves, of Summersville, WV, Susie (Joe) Vessels of Summersville, WV, Sherrie (Danny) Moul of Summersville, WV, and Sid (Mandy) Valentine of Sebring, FL; 14 nieces and nephews, 25 great-nieces and great-nephews, and many uncles and cousins. Tommy was a loving husband, father, “Poppy”, brother, uncle, cousin and friend to many. He never knew a stranger and would help anyone who needed it. He always referred to everyone as “Dad” or gave you a special nickname; if he gave you a name or picked on you, you knew he cared for you. He had a heart of gold which allowed him to see the good in everyone. He could fix anything that was broken. Memorial Services will be held at 2pm on Sunday July 25, 2021, at the Summersville Baptist Church with Pastor Dana Gatewood officiating, with visitation for family and friends from 1pm to 2pm.
